Corinna Sowers-Adler
Let Me Sing and I’m Happy
Metropolitan Room
New York, NY
After a series of clever By Request shows, Corinna Sowers-Adler returns with one comprised of favorite songs. Linked by just enough personal patter to describe and buoy each number, the evening features operetta through country flavored pop to musical theater. Well-chosen, often eclectic, material showcases range, both musically and dramatically. Her mood-setting title number is ebullient. Her comic sensibility is infectious with “Art Is Calling for Me” (“I Want to Be a Prima Donna”) (Victor Herbert), the wry “Instant Passion” (Garry Novikoff) and “Everybody Wants to Do a Musical” (Richard Maltby, Jr./Charles Strouse). In control of the joke, she delivers eloquent ham rather than mugging, employing an extraordinary soprano to best giggle-inducing effect.
