Dr. Jessica Valiente is a world-class flutist, equally at home in the worlds of classical music, jazz, Latin, and Brazilian music. She has performed throughout the US and Canada at such outstanding venues as Carnegie Hall, Weill Recital Hall, Merkin Hall, The National Cathedral, The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, The Gaillard Center, Baltimore Symphony Hall, The Bushnell Performing Arts Center, Reston Town Hall, and many more. John Radanovich of The Record says, “Jessica Valiente is a flautist of the first rank, and performs endlessly inventive solos.” Peter Westbrook of Jazz Review says that she “has a fresh approach to the flute that is very appealing,” and Mary Sheeran of FluteJournal.com called her playing “delightful” and has “musicality that is both vivacious and lovely.” She holds a B.A. in music from Barnard College in conjunction with Manhattan School of Music, an M.A. in music from the Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens College, CUNY, and a D.M.A. from the CUNY Graduate Center. She has taught flute at Brooklyn College (CUNY), Montclair State University, and is currently on the flute faculty of The New School’s Jazz and Contemporary Music division.
